Nammakkal is a people-first charitable trust striving to ensure that every family gets three meals a day. We are a people-powered trust born from compassion, serving children, women, and families in the places too often overlooked.
Nammakkal Charitable Trust is a transparent NGO in India, based in Chennai, and built to reach the forgotten with food, care, and support that changes lives.
The Story of Nammakkal
It began not with a strategy, but with silence. The silence that surrounds hunger. One evening, while returning from a hospital camp, our founder noticed a boy sitting by a shuttered shop, drinking water to feel full. He hadn’t eaten all day. Not because food was far, but because no one had offered it.
“That image became a turning point. It didn’t need a speech or a plan. It needed action”.
The next day, a group of us cooked and served 11 meals. No announcements. No banners. Just hot food in real hands. From there, we grew. People joined, an individual offered a van, another brought in notebooks, and a young girl donated her birthday savings. Small acts began to form a system of care. We didn’t set out to build an NGO. We simply refused to look away.
Today, Nammakkal Charitable Trust is a registered, community-led effort to ensure that food, learning, and care reach the homes that need them most. Our team is made of homemakers, students, teachers, drivers, and dreamers. We do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done. Because hunger cannot wait for meetings. And kindness should not wait for perfect plans.
